Two Things I Love Already About Common Core

This is my post which first appeared at Dynamite Lesson Plan. View original post.

It’s the end of the test as we know it, you might say, in California public schools. Last month I was made aware that my school district and state was retiring the old STAR test we have had for at least 15 years and replacing it with a test centered on something called the Common Core. It’s taken me until this past weekend to have a look at what exactly that is and what it means to me as a teacher. Just like with any new system in education, it will probably take me some time to fully comprehend what it is. I intend to post everything I learn here on this blog and I invite you to share what you learn here as well. I first heard that 26 states were on board with Common Core but looking at the site I can see it has grown much larger than that. It has two components that I give my 100% approval and encouragement to. Let me share them with you:

Running Muse 5-20-12

I went out hoping to do a normal paced 2 mile run for me 19-21 minutes. Instead it was a time to get out and get the blood pumping to the beat of my tunes. Id say I walked about 1/2 the way. I spotted a post or crack in the sidewalk, ran to it, then walked to the next chosen point to start running again. I now aim to run two days a week. I have set reminders for Sundays and Tuesdays as they seem to work best with my schedule. That could change soon when school lets out for the Summer but for now I want to commit to those days. In my experience, I neglect my running when I do not commit to specified days. I enjoyed the usual REM songs Ive listened to in the past. My next run WILL be Tuesday. I hope to put up some Amazon samples of new music then. Thanks for webbing in dudes and dudettes. Stay healthy.
